In those days when Internet was not so popular, people wrote mails to communicate. They didn’t use abbreviations either. Abbreviations save a lot of time and space. Abbreviations are short forms like, for example: AFAIK-As far as I know. Instead of writing down the whole thing for example, “As far as I know he has not come back from London.” You can just type, “AFAIK he has not come back from London. More abbreviations/ short forms are: CYA-See ya, GR8-Great, BBL- Be back later, IOW-In other words, SOL-Soon or later, OIC-Oh I see, BTW-By the way, POV-Point of view, BFN-Bye for now (B4N), 4M-From, TQ-Thank you(THX, TY), F2F-Face to face. There are many more types of abbreviations. But always make sure that the person you are using short forms(abbreviations) with knows these abbreviations.
